Attorney General Refers Request for Migration Alert Against Evo Morales to La Paz for Corruption Cases

The State Attorney General's Office has ordered the Departmental Prosecutor of La Paz, William Alave, to process a request for a migration alert and to open an investigation against former president Evo Morales for alleged corruption committed during his administration.

The note, signed by the Director of Fiscal Management and Supervision, Roberto Ignacio Almendras Gamarra, and addressed to William Alave, refers to a letter sent by former parliamentarians Amilcar Barral and Yesenia Yarhui, who on October 9 requested an investigation into Morales.

"I forward this note and its background to your authority's attention, so that within the framework of your powers established in Article 34.3 of Law 260, you process it accordingly, and that the prosecutors in charge of the cases referred to therein determine what is appropriate in law," reads the letter shared by Barral on his social media.

In the letter addressed to the Attorney General, Juan Lanchipa, Barral and Yarhui state that it is essential to open a thorough investigation into several cases that, in their opinion, have gone unpunished.

Among them, they mention the case of Morales' former girlfriend, Gabriela Zapata, and the Chinese company CAMC, which benefited from contracts through alleged influence peddling, causing economic damage of $566 million.

Additionally, they refer to the FONDIOC case, in which $182 million intended for projects for vulnerable indigenous communities were allegedly embezzled, as well as the purchase of Chinese barges with a $30 million overpricing.

They also request an investigation into alleged cost overruns in infrastructure projects of the Army Construction Company (ECE), amounting to $40 million, the YPFB contract with Catler Uniservis for $86 million, and the AIR CATERING S.R.L. case, which involves Boliviana de Aviación (BoA) in a $3 million contract.

The former parliamentarians estimate that the total economic damage to the State would be $1 billion, a figure that should be investigated by the Public Prosecutor's Office.
